April 2024
A mere two weeks ago we were in York SC for Silver in the City, and now we’re back on the rally trail to Tryon, NC for the bi-yearly Trot Into Tryon… I guess we really do rallies now! But this is a very small rally- only about 21 rigs can be parked in the little downtown, so we really wanted to give it a try! Skip & Denny, the organizers and hosts, really did a fantastic job with this one. Everything went smoothly and everyone had a lot of fun. From the first night of pizza and entertainment by a local youth bluegrass band, to the lovely small town that certainly “punches above its weight class” in terms of quality of food, arts and entertainment, we had a great time with with new and old friends. From Gayle and Sam in their ’63, to Roger and Robin in “Robin’s Nest”, Dave & Mindy, Reggie and Pam, Lee and Jennifer in their beautiful ’54 Chevy/58 Airstream combo, Wayne and Bob and of course the one and only Terry and Anne! Plus so many others whose names I can’t quite remember…
A bit of rain on our Friday parade into town but that didn’t dampen things too much. We started with some coffee at the Tryon Coffee House, hit the museum, explored the town and shared a few cold adult beverages at The Bottle! Saturday we walked a bit more, saw the beautiful Lanier Library, got some amazing pastries and coffee at All Things Good Bakery and had an outstanding lunch (with multiple vegetarian options for Melinda) at Huckleberrys. Our one regret was not getting over to the Nina Simone birthplace– she was such brilliant artist and activist.
This rally is only held every other year, but it’s already on our calendar to return!
