We needed a getaway from the southern summer heat, and so we headed north, up into the mountains, all the way up to West Virgina. Whatever you may have heard about the “Almost Heaven” state, it is truly one of the most rugged, wild & wonderful states, full of amazing outdoor activities, stunning scenery and good people.
We made our way north, up through the Shenandoah Valley. It’s only about a 5 hour drive by car to our final destination- but towing Tess on the dark twisty backroads of West Virginia would not be easy. We stopped at a Harvest Host- the Shenandoah Caverns. An impressive thunderstorm rolled just as we parked- it was over quick and left us an incredible double rainbow….some chase the pot of gold but we found our silver tin can was underneath- perfect!
After arriving in Monongahela National Forest we set up camp for 3 relaxing. Of course relaxing for Melinda means 13 mile hikes through the mountains! But it’s lots of fun for me too.
