Savannah, GA

February, 2023

We took some time off from traveling so we could install a new axle, which led to a new underbelly, which led to new insulation and wiring- serious project creep!

But then it was off to Savannah for my birthday trip to a warmer clime. We decided to do something different, and took Melinda’s pop with us to visit his wife’s best friend- and Melinda’s namesake. Linda graciously offered to let us camp in her back yard, while Pop stayed in her guest room. They got plenty of time to reminisce while we went out exploring, but they really enjoyed taking a trolley tour around the city, pointing out places they had lived and visited when Melinda’s mom and pop lived here in the 1960’s. And trips to the famous Bonaventure Cemetery , Tybee Beach and Tybee lighthouse really topped off his trip with us!

We, of course, did a walking ghost tour of the city- a city so old and with such a sordid history certainly has its share of ghosts, although we failed to see any! We searched high and low for a nice local brewery with little luck- we even had a (young) hostess tell us that “breweries aren’t really a east coast thing, you only find them out on the west coast”! Oh well, she was young… but we did find Moon River Brewing which had good food, good beer and their own share of ghost stories! We also found an Airstream themed restaurant- Treylor Park Hitch, so obviously we had to eat there as well!

Our big photographic challenge was to get a shot of Tess rolling through historic downtown Savannah. A plan was hatched, I would drop Melinda off at a red light and she would run ahead and get some pictures as we cruised by. The timing of the lights worked against her though and she had to work really hard to get some good pics…but ultimately we had success!
